The Cost of Life

The cost of life is death.  Everyone is born to die.  You only live once *yolo*, so why not live it to the fullest. Because it come sometimes prove to be transient.

In the movie Titanic, almost everyone aboard that ship had died.  They were having a great time with their lives as well, we never know when we are going to die so we need to just have fun while it lasts.

In the book The Call of The Wild, Buck had died but his soul had carried on.  He was well-pleased with himself before he died because he knew how to have fun.

So, I want you guys to think about this, and tell me what you think...

Frankenstein

If I was given the power to create life as Frankenstein did, even as obdurate as it is, I would probably reject the power because I don't think it is a very good thing to.  I don't believe that life should be created in any other way other than with a man and wife because that is how it is meant to be.

If life was created through scientific procedures then I believe that it wouldn't be the true meaning of LIFE. This is probably the number one reason as to why I would reject the power to create life.

The second reason I would chose to reject the power is, I don't think that the specimen would be able to feel the emotions that a normal human being could.

So all in all I do not believe that life should be created in any other way than with a mother and father of the child.

Thoughts Before Reading Frankenstein

I used to be scared of Frankenstein when I was very little.  Even though the story is obviously not true when I was little it used to scare and I don't really know as to why it did.  The author of this story is a female, which it doesn't really matter because I think it is great for a woman to be able to produce such a great story.  My thoughts on truly reading the story in this day and age I am sure i will be able to get a better understanding of the story line and be able to really know the story.

My thoughts on reading frankenstein in this day and age are very unwonted.  My thoughts on man creating life are irrelevant actually.  I do not think that man can scientifically create another human-being.

2012 Theme Word

Fast.  I chose fast because i love to go fast. Although being fast can sometimes be arduous, I wish that there were no such thing as a speed limit because i love going fast.  Fast is good because you can get things done faster and accomplish allot more.  Even if you are an athletic person it is very handy to be fast.

So being slow is not good so we all need to be fast and accurate at everything we do.

The Life of Antonia

Willa Cather offers a view of life in the pioneer times is such a pertinacity way.  She is really good at what she does and the book "My Antonia" tells a great story.

The book "My Antonia" would change if it were told in Antonia's perspective in a way that might just improve the story.  I think there would be more detail in the story if it were told from her perspective.

Cather is actually really good at narrating a story in the point of view as a man, which is really amazing.  Jim sounds like a man writing.

I think Jim changed the title for Antonia to My Antonia because he really liked her.

So all-in-all this book tells a great story about Antonia.

Author Willa Cather embedded literary devices, such as metaphors, similes, and personification, within her writing.

"As I looked about me I felt that the grass was the country, as the water is the sea. The red of the grass made all the great prairie the colour of wine-stains, or of certain seaweeds when they are first washed up. And there was so much motion in it; the whole country seemed, somehow, to be running."

"The grave, with its tall red grass that was never mowed, was like a little island."

"Winter comes down savagely over a little town on the prairie. The wind that sweeps in from the open country strips away all the leafy screens that hide one yard from another in summer, and the houses seem to draw closer together. The roofs, that looked so far away across the green treetops, now stare you in the face, and they are so much uglier than when their angles were softened by vines and shrubs.

Chunk #1: Comment the effect of the setting on the characters within the novel.
The setting is in Nebraska, the harsh weather also plays a big role on the crops, as well as the era of time that they are in.

Chunk #2: discuss the effect a setting on you, including imagery (lots of adjectives) and a simile or a metaphor as you describe the land.
My back porch reminds me very much of an oasis, especially during the winter because the scenery becomes very plain and boring.  The wind wind whispers around the deck posts like a scary movie.  This makes winter very hard to with-stand. But when the weather gets nice outside, I'm definitely outdoors doing something.  My back porch has a huge effect on me because it is a nice place to just relax and enjoy the elements.

Argument: Death Penalty

Evidence 1:

The more executions we have is for the better.  Each execution deters an average of 18 murders in the U.S.
  • Commentary 1:  This is good because it has such a large deterrent effect that it will cause way less murders to be taken place.
  • Commentary 2:  If people can start paying attention to this it will slow the amount of murders in the U.S way down.

Evidence 2:

According to an emory university professor, thay by speeding up executions would strengthen the deterrent effect.
  • Commentary 1:  The more lawful executions we have is for the better.
  • Commentary 2:  The stronger we get the deterrent effect, the less murders we will have.

Opposing Claims:

Many beleive that the death penalty does not deter the amount of murders in the united states.

My Rebuttal:

Nevertheless, I say that for every execution, it at least deters between 3 to 18 murders.

My Paragraph:

Keeping the death penalty is definately a must.  The death penalty will keep our world we live in a safer place.  The more executions we have will continue to strengthen the deterrent effect.  Hopefully we can get the deterrent effect so strong that we wont have to ever worry about the death penalty.  The death penalty is a hard subject to talk about because it can go both ways, you are still taking some persons life, but in some instances the death penalty can be for the better.  Talking about and commiting the death penalty is not very urbane, the death penalty will never be a polite and pleasent thing to think about.

My Thinking:
This paragraph is based mainly deductive thinking because there is enough evidence to make the conclusion certain.
